The Velus Promise

  • Price in 60 seconds — not “we’ll come back to you Monday”
  • Cut to ±0.1 mm, or we re-cut it free
  • One part or ten thousand — no minimum order
  • Dispatched in 5–7 days. Or tomorrow, if you need it.

Parsed on your machine for the price. Your file is only sent to us when you add the part to your basket, and then it is kept with the order.

How the price is worked out.

Five inputs: material, cutting, piercing, secondary work, setup. Your quote itemises every one of them.

The shape of it

material = sheet area your part occupies × thickness × density
cutting = length of cut × the rate for that material and gauge
piercing = pierce starts × the rate for that gauge
secondary = deburr | tumble | powder coat
variable = material + cutting + piercing + secondary

each = variable − quantity saving + setup ÷ qty
line = max(each × qty, minimum line charge)

Every quote shows exactly what goes into it — material, machine time, pierces, finishing and setup. The rate card behind those is ours; the total is yours, to the penny, before you commit.

Worked example

240 × 120 mm bracket, 3 mm mild steel, 8 pierces, ten off.

Why thickness costs more

Thicker plate cuts slower, so machine time per metre climbs with thickness. Stainless needs nitrogen and runs slower again; brass and copper are reflective and slower still. Your quote reflects the actual material and gauge, not a banded average.

Interpolated between thicknesses, not rounded up.

Quantity breaks

The variable cost steps down in bands as the quantity rises, and setup spreads across every part in the line. Both happen automatically — put a bigger number in the quantity box and the saving against a one-off is shown on the card.

Applied per line, not across the basket.

Material — the bounding box, not the shape

You pay for the rectangle your part occupies, plus a nesting allowance. The skeleton is scrap either way.

Setup — why one is not a tenth of ten

Programming and handling are charged once per line and split across your quantity, so the tenth part costs a fraction of the first. Minimum line charge £8.95 ex VAT.

Quantity breaks — where they apply

They start at 5 parts and deepen from there, on the variable cost. Setup already spreads across the quantity, so it is not discounted twice.

Complex work

Anything we will not price automatically.

  • Folded and formed parts
  • Welded assemblies
  • Parts over 1000 mm — we cut to 3000 × 1500
  • Machining, tapping and countersinks
  • Tube, box section and profile cutting
  • Metal we do not rack — titanium, wear plate

What makes a clean DXF
  • Drawn 1:1 in millimetres.
  • Every profile closed.
  • Text outlined to curves.
  • Bend and etch lines on their own layer.
  • One part per file.
What trips it up
  • Duplicate lines — they double your cut length.
  • Hatching and dimensions left in.
  • Holes under 0.8 × thickness will not pierce.
  • Webs under 1 × thickness — the metal distorts.
  • Splines from a 3D model — arcs cut better. Tolerances and DFM.

Privacy

Your drawing, kept safe and kept with the job.

  • Priced in your browser. Nothing is sent while you are just getting a number.
  • On order, we keep your file. It is what production cuts from, and what we both refer back to if a part is ever queried.
  • Private to your account. Never shared, never shown to anyone else, never used for anything but your job. Terms.
  • Yours to delete. Kept 24 months so you can reorder in a click. Ask us and it goes sooner.
